Knowing the Difference between Virgin and Recycled Garbage Bags

One of the most useful and most widespread inventions that have come about over the last century and which has become a phenomenal product in the world is the plastic bag.

Convenient, light and easy to dispose of, plastic bags have performed many functions including that of the incredibly helpful garbage bag or bin liner which have spared many hands from coming in contact with filth and waste. However, as of late, the focus of attention has been directed at the glaring effects of garbage bags on the environment and the issue of the effects this will eventually have on business as a whole. As such, this brings up the question as to whether people should continue to use virgin plastic bags or switch to the recycled variety instead.

For much of the plastic bags that have been used in stores, in homes, in offices, and generally wherever there is a need for a plastic bag, the products are made virgin or pure polyethylene and so are made directly from raw materials.

This makes virgin plastic materials cheap and can be produced in abundance. For tasks that require tougher transportation methods, Linier Low Density Polyethylene or LLDP can also be easily made through the virgin route. On the other hand, recycled garbage bags are made out of used plastic bags which were recycled in order to be reused, as is dictated by the three Rs Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. But by virtue of their structure on a molecular level, plastic is far more difficult to recycle as compared to glass or other recyclable materials, requiring more heat and more processing, thus leading to more expenses on the part of the producer. As a consequence, prices for recycled garbage bags can be a little higher than those made of virgin materials. But considering that most virgin plastic products end up as litter and take about thousands of years before decomposing, using recycled products does have its perks for the conscience.

In conclusion, there is much to be said about virgin garbage bags since they are quite economical and are easier to manufacture, which then leads to more in stock to be used for the purpose of garbage disposal.

However, for those who find the idea of contributing to reducing the amount of plastic litter that is rapidly growing at an exponential rate and having a huge impact on the environment, recycled garbage bags or bin liners are a good solution. Recycled garbage bags do function equally as well as virgin garbage bags, so it doesn’t necessarily mean there is a drop in quality, resulting in breakage or tearing.
