Choosing the Right Dishwashing Detergent
Powdered Detergent
Powdered dishwashing detergent in a box used to be the standard. However, these days more companies are introducing such powdered detergents in tablet form. Powdered dishwashing detergent tends to be less expensive than liquid detergents. However, since it does not come in pre-measured amounts, it is easy to end up using too much or too little. In addition, powdered detergent is also harder to dissolve, so you may want to add on a rinse aid if you plan to use powdered detergent for your dishwashing.
Powdered detergent also often works best if you are committed to pre-washing dishes before they are put in the dishwasher. However, if you don’t take this step or include a rinse aid, you may find that your dishes do not turn as clean as you would like them to.
Liquid Dishwashing Detergent
Liquid dishwashing detergent is becoming more popular as manufacturers produce pacs that contain pre-measured amounts of detergent. Bottles of gel dishwashing detergent are becoming less available because they offer the same problems as powdered detergent in terms of offering an effective way to ensure that you are using exactly the right amount. If you want a detergent that will work well with all water types, can combat greasy foods and stains, a liquid dishwashing detergent is the preferred option.
Tablets and Pacs
Tablets and pacs are newer solutions for dishwashing. Powdered detergents in tablets tend to come in individual wrappers. However, these can be difficult to open with wet hands and they will also dissolve when they come into contact with water. However, you must also take care when using liquid dishwashing detergent pacs because they will dissolve and stick together permanently if you stick a wet hand into the pac container. In addition, pacs and tablets tend to be more expensive than either liquid or powdered detergent in a bottle. However, if you prefer the convenience of pre-measured amounts of detergent, tablets and pacs are reliable options.
The right option for dishwashing detergent depends on your budget and your cleaning needs. If you want to make sure that you select the best option, learn more about the water supply to find out what type of water you have. Then determine how dirty your dishes will be, whether you can pre-wash them and choose the appropriate detergent accordingly.
